Meta, the company that owns Instagram, is testing new AI tools to help find out how old users really are. The goal is to stop teenagers from using adult accounts and to protect them online.
In a recent blog post, Meta shared that these tools are part of their efforts to make Instagram safer for teens. Instagram already uses AI to guess a user’s age, but now Meta wants to improve it. The new AI will check if teens are using accounts with adult birthdays. If it finds one, it will switch that account to “Teen Settings,” which come with extra safety features.
These tools are still being tested in the U.S. If the AI makes a mistake, users can change their settings to fix it.
Meta will also send messages to parents with tips on talking to their kids about giving the right age online.
Meta said, “The digital world is changing, and we need to change with it.” They added that working with parents is important to keep teens safe.
In the past, Meta has made many changes for teen safety. Teen accounts now have limited privacy settings, and users under 16 can’t go live on Instagram anymore.
