YouTube Shorts is getting a big update with Google DeepMind’s Veo 2, a new AI tool that creates full video clips from text. This feature lets creators make AI-generated videos, making their Shorts more creative and unique.
Previously, YouTube introduced Dream Screen, which allowed users to create AI-powered backgrounds. Now, with Veo 2, creators can generate entire video clips, choose different styles, and add cinematic effects.
YouTube says Veo 2 improves video quality by making AI-generated movement look more natural and lifelike. It also works faster, reducing wait times for creators. To ensure transparency, YouTube will use DeepMind’s SynthID, a watermarking tool that marks AI-created videos. These videos will also have labels so viewers know they were made with AI.
To use Veo 2, creators can:
- Make AI backgrounds by selecting Green Screen in the Shorts camera, tapping Dream Screen, and entering a text prompt.
- Create full AI video clips by tapping Add, then Create, and entering a text prompt with the desired length.
Right now, these features are available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more countries coming soon. YouTube is excited to give creators more AI tools to bring their ideas to life.
