Punjab will soon host Pakistan’s first university focused on artificial intelligence, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on Thursday. The university will offer programs in AI, robotics, machine learning, and other sciences to prepare students for future challenges.
“Our students must stay competitive and excel in all fields,” she said during the laptop scheme launch event in Faisalabad.
The Chief Minister also introduced a new initiative allowing students to borrow up to Rs30 million for education, part-time jobs, or starting their own businesses. Additionally, free land will be provided to students to help them establish businesses.
She announced plans to increase the distribution of laptops from 30,000 this year to 50,000 next year, with further increases to 100,000 laptops for students scoring above 65% in public universities and colleges.
Scholarships for students in their 3rd and 4th year of study will also be introduced, with the provincial government planning to expand its education budget to support these programs.
CM Maryam humorously acknowledged students’ use of tools like ChatGPT for research and stressed the need to improve Pakistan’s performance in scientific research.
