OpenAI Launches ‘Deep Research’ AI Tool for Online Reports

A week after introducing an AI tool that can shop for groceries and book restaurant reservations, OpenAI has unveiled another new feature: Deep Research. This AI tool can search the internet and create clear, well-organized reports quickly.

OpenAI showcased Deep Research on YouTube on February 2 after giving a preview to lawmakers and officials in Washington.

“It can handle complex research tasks that usually take people 30 minutes to 30 days,” said Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, as reported by The New York Times. Deep Research can complete these tasks in just 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how difficult they are.

More Than Just a Chatbot

Unlike regular chatbots that answer questions or generate text, Deep Research is an AI agent. This means it can interact with other online services—from summarizing data to ordering food on DoorDash.

During a Capitol Hill briefing, Weil showed how the tool works by asking it to create a report on Albert Einstein. The AI quickly compiled Einstein’s background, personality traits, and even suggested five questions a senator might ask if Einstein were being considered for US Secretary of Energy.

Deep Research is designed to help professionals, researchers, and decision-makers get reliable information quickly.
