YouTube is Testing AI Overview in Search Results

Google is now trying out AI summaries in YouTube search results. These are similar to the AI Overviews already used in Google Search.

In a recent blog post, Google said it is testing a new feature that shows short AI-made summaries and suggestions when you search for videos on YouTube. This tool will pick the most useful clips from videos that match your search. It will also help you find more information related to what you’re looking for, especially for shopping and travel topics.

This is like the AI Overviews in Google Search, which started in the U.S. in May 2024 and went worldwide in October. However, that rollout wasn’t very smooth. People found strange, incorrect, and even funny answers from the AI.

Now, Google is testing this feature on YouTube with a small group of YouTube Premium users in the U.S. for English searches.

For fun, Google also mentioned that its AI in search can now even explain made-up phrases. So go ahead, get creative!
