GE Healthcare revealed today that it has launched Caption AI software for quick assessments using its Vscan Air SL handheld ultrasound.
Now, doctors and nurses can utilize this portable ultrasound device with real-time guidance from Caption AI. It helps them capture clear images for diagnosing heart conditions and automatically estimates ejection fraction, aiding in clinical decisions related to heart health.
GE Healthcare initially introduced the Vscan Air SL, the latest version of its Vscan system, in August 2023. The company first introduced the pocket-sized Vscan ultrasound in 2010, and now over 50,000 such devices are in use. The FDA cleared the initial Vscan Air CL system in late 2020, with the device launching in March 2021.
With the acquisition of Caption Health in 2023, GE Healthcare incorporated AI-guided imaging into its offerings. Caption also enhances its Venue point-of-care ultrasound systems with AI-driven Caption Guidance, introduced last autumn.
More on the GE Healthcare Vscan Air SL with Caption AI: The Vscan Air SL with Caption AI reduces the barrier for healthcare professionals to obtain cardiac images, allowing even non-experts to quickly assess patients’ hearts.
Caption AI offers real-time guidance on probe movements and includes a quality meter to ensure excellent image quality. After capturing an image, the system’s AutoEF feature automatically calculates the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Users can also efficiently scan using AutoCapture and Save Best Clip Features to obtain high-quality images.
The Vscan Air SL itself delivers exceptional imaging performance, boasting high depth, resolution, and sensitivity through its single crystal transducer technology.
Roland Rott, president and CEO of Ultrasound at GE Healthcare, remarked, “Integrating Caption AI with the Vscan Air SL handheld ultrasound marks a significant advancement in cardiac screening. This technology equips users with guidance and tools for high-quality ultrasound scans, facilitating earlier detection of cardiac diseases. The strategic acquisition of Caption Health in 2023 further enhances our product capabilities and strengthens our position in ultrasound and the evolving artificial intelligence field.”
