Avicenna.AI, a company that makes medical AI tools, recently got approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for their CINA-CSpine tool.
CINA-CSpine is designed to help doctors find and treat neck spine fractures by analyzing CT scans. These fractures are serious injuries, especially if the spinal cord is involved, so it’s important to diagnose them correctly and quickly. Cyril Di Grandi, the CEO of Avicenna.AI, explained that their tool aims to speed up the time between scanning and diagnosis, which is crucial for treating this condition.
The CINA-CSpine tool was tested on over 300 CT scans from different sources in the U.S. and Europe. It was able to detect spine fractures with over 90% accuracy, compared to diagnoses made by expert radiologists.
Di Grandi also said that the tool helps doctors make faster and better decisions, leading to improved patient care. Since quick treatment is important for spine fractures, this AI tool helps flag possible fractures and alerts doctors through their usual systems, making it easier for them to act quickly.
