Canada has introduced its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy for the federal public service. AI can help improve government services and make them more efficient for Canadians. The government is committed to using AI safely, ethically, and responsibly.
The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, President of the Treasury Board, launched the Strategy at the University of Waterloo, a leading center for technology and research. This highlights the government’s focus on innovation and improving digital services through AI.
The Strategy was created with input from the public and experts from different fields. This ensures it aligns with Canada’s democratic values. It focuses on four main goals:
- Creating an AI Centre of Expertise to guide government AI projects.
- Ensuring AI systems are secure and used responsibly.
- Providing training and career development in AI.
- Building public trust through openness and transparency.
The government will use AI to boost scientific research, improve worker productivity, and enhance digital services. The Strategy will also remove barriers that slow AI adoption and encourage collaboration between departments.
By implementing this Strategy, Canada aims to remain a global leader in AI while ensuring that AI solutions are ethical, inclusive, and beneficial for all citizens.
