China’s three biggest telecom companies—China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom—have fully adopted the open-source DeepSeek AI model. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) confirmed this, saying the companies are using the DeepSeek-R1 model in different areas. They offer custom computing solutions and support AI-powered services.
AI is helping improve telecom services. During the 2025 Spring Festival, telecom companies used AI along with 5G, cloud computing, and big data to improve services. They provided billions of accurate location services for smart vehicle navigation during the holiday. AI also helped detect fraud for financial institutions and supported cloud computing solutions for remote work.
Telecom companies also used AI and big data to help government services. China Unicom monitored travel flows, scenic spots, and key infrastructure in real time. They also analyzed holiday spending and the economy after the holidays.
