Google Cloud Launches AI Tool to Fight Burnout in Healthcare

Google Cloud has introduced two new tools to help cut down on paperwork and other administrative tasks in health care. The tools, called Vertex AI Search for Healthcare and Healthcare Data Engine (HDE), are now available to help hospitals and clinics work more efficiently and spend more time on patient care.

The Problem: Too Much Paperwork

A report by Google Cloud and The Harris Poll found that doctors and other health workers are spending too much time on paperwork. Doctors use about 28 hours a week on things like writing reports, scheduling, and billing. Office staff and billing workers spend even more time—up to 36 hours a week—doing similar tasks. This heavy workload is making many feel exhausted and leaves less time for patients.

“The paperwork in health care is overwhelming, and it takes away from patient care,” said Lisa O’Malley, a senior leader at Google Cloud. The new AI tools are designed to help reduce this burden.

How the AI Tools Help

  1. Vertex AI Search for Healthcare
This tool uses advanced AI to help health workers find important information quickly, such as details from medical records. It understands medical terms and abbreviations, making searches faster and more accurate.
  2. Healthcare Data Engine (HDE)
The HDE organizes patient data in a standard format so hospitals can use it easily. It helps improve patient care by making it easier to get insights from data. New updates include flexible pricing and a tool for visualizing data.

These tools aim to make health care work simpler, giving doctors and staff more time to focus on their patients.
