Google has added its AI-based fire alert tool to 15 more countries in Europe and Africa. This tool helps track fires with detailed information through Google Search, Maps, and notifications.
The new countries include Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, France, Greece, Spain, Italy, Kenya, Croatia, Cyprus, Montenegro, Monaco, Portugal, Rwanda, Slovenia, and Turkey. This tool was already available in the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. It uses data from satellites and other sources to improve fire tracking.
Google’s AI system combines satellite images and data from past fires to map fire boundaries accurately. Extra AI models check the data to give more precise results than satellite images alone.
This project is part of Google’s goal to use AI to help communities handle climate change and its dangers. Google keeps improving its models and plans to offer this service in more countries, ensuring people get important information when needed.
Recently, Google mapped over 40 wildfires in southern Europe. These maps appear in Google Search and Maps, and users can get alerts about nearby fires. This service was very useful in early July when about 1.4 million people used Google’s fire information after fires broke out in Europe and Africa. The fire alert tool is especially helpful for locals and tourists, giving timely updates in their language and showing fire-affected routes in Google Maps.
