Elon Musk has once again asked a U.S. court to prevent OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, from turning into a for-profit company, according to CNBC.
Lawyers for Musk and his AI company, xAI, filed a legal request on Friday. They also asked the court to stop OpenAI from preventing its investors from funding other AI companies, which could hurt Musk’s business.
This is part of an ongoing conflict between Musk and OpenAI. Musk helped start OpenAI in 2015 but left the company in 2018. Since then, OpenAI has grown into a major player in artificial intelligence.
Musk claims OpenAI blocks investors from supporting its competitors, making it harder for other companies, like his xAI, to compete.
OpenAI was originally founded as a non-profit organization but later switched to a “capped” for-profit model. Now, it is looking to become a for-profit public benefit corporation to attract more investors.
Musk has expressed concerns about OpenAI’s focus on profit under its CEO, Sam Altman. In March, Musk sued the company, accusing it of abandoning its original mission to make AI research open to everyone.
OpenAI argues that Musk’s lawsuit is driven by frustration after leaving the company and that his support for open-source AI development is part of a personal rivalry.
