Nepal Police is planning to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help fight crime. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) will use AI-based tools to study crime patterns and make investigations easier.

At a press conference in Kathmandu, CID officials said AI can improve crime prediction and help police take action more efficiently. Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Kuber Kadayat said AI will help in crime control and also in evaluating police officers for promotions.

Nepal Police has purchased an AI tool from an Indian company and trained 15 officers in India. The system is now being implemented. CID officials believe AI will improve crime detection and make Nepal’s policing system more effective.

Nepal Police is also working with universities to research crime investigation. Three colleges will study different crime-related topics, including financial crimes and human trafficking.

Additionally, digital forensic labs will be set up in all provinces, and a new DNA testing lab is being planned in Pokhara to speed up DNA test results. The Finance Ministry is helping to fund these technology upgrades.
