Nvidia has launched new tools and services to help developers build humanoid robots faster. This announcement was made at Siggraph 2024. These tools are now available to developers and software makers for training and creating advanced humanoid robots.
Nvidia introduced NIM microservices and frameworks for robot simulation and learning. They also launched Nvidia OSMO, which helps with running multi-stage robotics tasks and offers a remote-control workflow for training robots with small data sets.
Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, said, “The next wave of AI is robotics, and humanoid robots are among the most exciting developments.” He emphasized that Nvidia is enhancing its entire robotics platform, making it accessible to developers and companies worldwide.
To tackle the need for large amounts of data to train robots, Nvidia allows developers to create lots of synthetic data from a few human tasks.
Earlier this year, Nvidia introduced Project GR00T. This project aims to develop a general-purpose model for humanoid robots that can handle various types of instructions.
Other companies are also making progress in humanoid robotics. For example, Tesla recently unveiled its Optimus robot, and CEO Elon Musk mentioned that the company plans to start using humanoid robots internally by next year.
