BIONIKS, a Karachi-based prosthetics company, has launched a mobile AI-powered factory in Gaza to help people who have lost their arms or legs. This factory makes custom prosthetic limbs for amputees in Gaza, a region struggling with conflict and limited resources.
The company, founded in 2016, is committed to using advanced technology to improve lives. The mobile factory uses artificial intelligence to design and produce prosthetic arms and legs on-site, offering immediate assistance in areas where help is hard to find.
“We want to use technology to change lives,” BIONIKS said in a statement. “Our goal is to restore mobility, independence, and dignity for those affected by conflict and hardship.”
This initiative comes at a critical time, as Gaza faces a severe humanitarian crisis following the military conflict that began in October 2023. BIONIKS hopes the mobile factory will provide life-changing solutions for amputees in need.
In 2021, BIONIKS gained international recognition for creating a multi-grip bionic arm for four-year-old Mohammed Sideeq, making him the youngest person to receive such a prosthetic. The arm helped Mohammed regain his ability to perform daily activities, like playing and buttoning his shirt.
Co-founder Anas Niaz explained that designing a bionic arm for such a young child was a groundbreaking achievement. “No one had ever done this before,” Niaz said. “But Mohammed’s hopes inspired us to make the impossible possible.”
BIONIKS’ mission to combine technology and compassion continues to make a difference for people in need worldwide.
