Spotify is testing a new AI tool that creates playlists based on what you type. Called AI Playlist, this feature is currently in beta and available only to Spotify Premium users in the U.K. and Australia. You can make playlists from your creative ideas like “Sad music for painting dying flowers” or “Relaxing music for allergy season.”
The AI Playlist won’t work for prompts that aren’t related to music, like current events or specific brands. It also blocks offensive prompts to keep the feature safe for all users.
You can get creative with prompts about places, animals, activities, or even emojis. The best playlists are made from prompts that mix genres, moods, artists, or decades. If you don’t like a playlist, you can refine it by asking for more pop songs or less upbeat tracks.
Spotify says it plans to keep improving this feature and hopes to launch it in more areas soon. This tool adds to Spotify’s other discovery features, like AI DJ, Discover Weekly, and Daily Mix, which help users find new music.
In other news, Spotify might increase subscription prices in the U.S. later this year. Individual plans could rise by $1 a month, while family and duo plans might go up by $2.
