The UK Government is launching a new initiative to boost AI adoption across various sectors as part of its AI Opportunities Plan. A total of £7 million has been set aside to fund 120 AI projects aimed at improving productivity and efficiency.
One example of this funding is an AI algorithm designed for bakeries. This tool predicts sales and helps decide how much of each product should be made, reducing food waste. Another project focuses on using AI to predict and repair potholes before they form, potentially saving costs and improving roads. Farmers will also benefit, with AI tools helping increase dairy cow yields.
Although the £7 million allocation is significantly smaller than the £1.3 billion AI investment plan that was recently canceled, the Government remains optimistic. Peter Kyle, the Science and Technology Secretary, emphasized the transformative potential of AI, saying:
“The wide range of projects, from farms and bakeries to fixing potholes, shows how AI can bring limitless benefits. With our 50-point AI Opportunities Plan, we’re ready to deliver a decade of growth and innovation across the UK.”
This ambitious plan aims to position the UK as Europe’s top destination for AI businesses, encouraging small companies to use AI and unlock new opportunities for national growth.
