Tyson Fury criticized the idea of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for judging boxing matches after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk in their heavyweight rematch on Saturday night.
The fight in Riyadh was historic as it featured the first-ever AI judge. Though the AI judge’s score didn’t officially count, it was part of an experiment led by The Ring Magazine and Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.
The AI judge, introduced before the fight, promised fairness by analyzing every move and round. However, it gave Fury little comfort after human judges scored the match 116-112 in Usyk’s favor. The AI judge scored the fight even more decisively, giving Usyk a 118-112 win and awarding Fury only two rounds (the second and fifth).
When asked about AI judging during his post-fight press conference, Fury dismissed the concept entirely. “Keep the humans; we need more jobs for people, not machines,” he said, adding sharp criticism of AI and even electric cars.
This groundbreaking experiment has sparked debates about the future role of technology in sports.
