Google is adding a new Gemini AI side panel in Gmail that can help you write emails and summarize email threads. This new feature is also coming to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. The announcement comes shortly after Google introduced these features at its I/O developer conference last month, which focused on new AI tools from the company.

With Gemini in Gmail, you can get help drafting emails or receive suggested responses. You can also ask questions and find specific information from your emails or Google Drive files. For example, you can ask Gemini for a PO number or details about a past marketing event.

These features are available to Google Workspace customers who have a Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, a Gemini Education or Education Premium add-on, or a Google One AI Premium subscription.

In Docs, the Gemini side panel can help you write and refine content, summarize information, and brainstorm ideas. It can also create content based on other files. In Slides, Gemini can help you generate new slides, custom images, and summarize presentations.

In Sheets, the Gemini panel can help you track and organize data, create tables, generate formulas, and assist with tasks. In Drive, Gemini can summarize documents and provide quick facts about a project.

To access these features in Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Drive, you need to be a paid Gemini user.
