Zoom is introducing AI avatars to make remote work easier. To create a custom avatar, users will record a short video of themselves, which Zoom’s AI will use to create a digital version that looks and sounds like them.
These AI avatars can deliver messages, allowing users to handle two tasks at once, like attending meetings while focusing on other responsibilities. However, this feature will first be available through Zoom’s Clips for short updates, not for live meetings.
Smita Hashim, Zoom’s Chief Product Officer, assures that Zoom is taking security seriously by adding protections like authentication, watermarking, and strict rules to prevent misuse of avatars. The avatars will be part of Zoom’s AI Companion, which costs $12 a month. Without this add-on, paid users can still use preset avatars and voices, but can’t create custom ones.
Zoom’s CEO, Eric Yuan, is excited about this new tool, believing it can help people manage tasks like attending meetings or sending emails more efficiently. Yuan says it fits Zoom’s goal of using AI to make work easier and boost productivity.
Additionally, the AI Companion add-on will offer features like integrating with tools like Zendesk and Asana, and personalized meeting summaries. This new feature could change how remote work is done, especially in fast-paced industries where time is crucial.
