Apple Developing Chips for AI in Data Centers

Apple Inc. is making its own chips to run artificial intelligence tools in data centers, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. It’s not clear if these chips will actually be used. The company has been making its own chips for iPhones, Macs, and other devices, and this new project, known as ACDC, would expand on that.

Apple’s stock went up by 1.2% after the news. So far this year, it’s been down by 5.6%. Apple hasn’t commented on this yet.

Apple has been trying to catch up with other companies in AI technology. At their upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference, they’re expected to talk about new features that use AI to help users in their daily lives. They’ve also been talking to companies like Google and OpenAI about using their AI services.

If Apple makes its own server chips, it would join other big tech companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms. These companies already use their own chips in their data centers instead of relying on Intel’s chips.
