The U.S. Department of Labor has introduced a new framework to help employers use AI in a way that promotes fair and inclusive hiring. This AI and Inclusive Hiring Framework aims to make the hiring process more accessible, especially for people with disabilities.

AI is becoming more common in recruiting, and many believe it can reduce bias in hiring decisions. However, there are also risks, like bias in algorithms. To help address these issues, the Department of Labor worked with the Partnership on Employment and Accessible Technology (PEAT) to create a guide for employers. This guide offers 10 key steps to make sure AI is used fairly, especially for people with disabilities.

The framework builds on a previous AI Risk Management Framework developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in January 2023. It was created with input from experts in AI, disability advocates, and both public and private sector professionals.

The goal of this initiative is to help employers adopt better practices, ensuring that AI tools in hiring are used in a way that benefits all job seekers, including those with disabilities. This effort is part of a larger government push to make sure AI improves accessibility and inclusivity in the workplace.
