Elon Musk’s social media platform X has a new default setting that uses user posts and interactions to train its AI chatbot, Grok. This setting allows your posts and interactions with Grok to be used for training and improving the AI.
However, users have the option to opt out of this process. While the default setting automatically includes user content for Grok’s training, all X users can choose to prevent their public posts from being used. This option is available on the web platform and will soon be on mobile. Making your account private also stops your material from being used by Grok.
Grok, which is similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, was launched for premium subscribers on X last fall. It’s part of Musk’s AI startup, xAI.

Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion and has since made many changes, including cutting staff and introducing a premium subscription. He sees AI as a key part of his business, which also includes SpaceX. However, in 2023, Musk signed a letter with other tech leaders, calling for a pause on developing AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 due to potential risks.
