Mercedes car drivers will soon be able to have conversations with their vehicles thanks to a new update. The free upgrade, available for many Mercedes cars with the MBUX infotainment system, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to answer a wide range of questions clearly and easily.

The system, powered by Microsoft Azure OpenAI and Bing web search data, allows seamless communication between drivers and their cars. With this feature, over three million Mercedes vehicles can now respond to questions about topics like pop culture, geography, science, and history. The system can even handle follow-up questions related to earlier queries.

Drivers can activate the MBUX Voice Assistant by saying, “Hey Mercedes.” They can ask about the weather, sports scores, news, and more.

Markus Schäfer, a board member of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, explained: “We’ve added an AI-powered knowledge feature to make connecting with your car fun and rewarding. This unique software combines ChatGPT and Bing for better information sharing.”

The update is easy to install and doesn’t require a dealership visit. Drivers will likely receive an on-screen prompt to install the new software version.
