Paige, a medical technology startup in New York, aims to simplify this process with its new AI assistant called Alba. Designed for use in research at medical facilities, Alba helps pathologists by providing quick access to information about a patient from their medical records, aiding in report preparation, and supporting follow-up actions.

Alba integrates data from various sources like Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and Image Management Systems (IMS). By bringing this data into one platform, Alba reduces the need for pathologists to switch between systems, allowing them to focus on critical tasks. It summarizes patient history, pathology reports, radiology findings, and more, giving pathologists actionable insights in seconds.

The AI assistant also uses Paige’s clinical-grade AI tools, such as Paige Omniscreen, to analyze tissue samples and identify potential cancer areas. It helps create case evaluations for experts to review and finalize diagnostic reports, which can be done through voice commands, making the diagnostic workflow faster and more efficient.

Paige’s AI models, like Alba, are trained on millions of medical images, making them highly effective for pathology research. Recently, Paige announced its second-generation models, Virchow2 and Virchow2G, developed with Microsoft. These models were trained on over 3 million pathology slides from diverse patient groups worldwide, enabling rapid and accurate diagnoses even in complex cases.

Currently, Alba is available for research use only and is not yet approved for diagnostic procedures. However, it holds great promise for improving diagnostic accuracy in oncology and could lead to similar tools for patient treatment in the future.

Paige’s goal is to push the boundaries of AI in healthcare, moving toward a future where AI not only aids in detecting cancer but also enhances personalized treatment plans. The introduction of Alba is a significant step in this direction, making pathologists’ work easier and more efficient.
