The National Telecom and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) has issued an important warning about rising cyber attack threats in Pakistan.
The advisory highlights risks related to VPNs, AI tools, and suspicious browser extensions, urging people to stay cautious while using these technologies.
The NTISB revealed that hackers are targeting personal and sensitive information through browser extensions, some of which millions use daily. These extensions can be exploited to steal credentials for social media accounts like Facebook and online banking.
Sixteen popular browser extensions, including AI tools like ChatGPT-4 and Gemini for Chrome, have been flagged as risky. Free VPNs and unverified AI chatbots are also on the list of suspicious software.
Key Recommendations:
- Avoid using free or unverified browser extensions and VPNs.
- Only install trusted and reputable browser extensions, and keep them updated.
- Use licensed antivirus software for better security.
The NTISB advises users to remain alert and replace risky extensions with safer alternatives. Without taking precautions, hackers can exploit software vulnerabilities to access sensitive data through phishing or compromised systems. Protect your personal information by following these guidelines.
