TVC Communications has introduced Nigeria’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) news anchors. The announcement was made in a press release on Wednesday night.
These new AI anchors, created by TVC’s main news brand, TVC News, will deliver news in English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, and Pidgin. This step is meant to make news more accessible to people across Nigeria’s many languages.
TVC says this is part of their plan to reach more people and provide news in languages they understand. The company also said the AI anchors are not replacing human journalists—they are there to support them.
“We are proud to lead this change in Nigeria’s media industry,” said TVC Communications CEO, Victoria Ajayi. “Using AI will help us improve our news coverage and show how we use technology to grow.”
Ajayi added that the AI tools will support the experienced professionals already working at TVC.
TVC is also aware of global concerns about AI, such as fake news and deepfakes. To prevent these issues, they are using watermarks on AI videos and strong content checks.
The company promises to follow the Nigerian Broadcasting Code strictly. All AI content will be checked and approved by trained journalists and editors to make sure it is accurate, fair, and respectful of Nigerian cultures.
TVC believes combining technology with journalism is a big step toward the future of news in Africa.
