The UAE tech company G42 has partnered with Italian AI startup iGenius to build a big AI supercomputer in Italy, the companies said in a joint statement on Friday.
This deal is part of a larger plan announced in February when the UAE promised to invest $40 billion in Italy, as mentioned by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The AI project, named “Colosseum,” will cost $1 billion over five years and use Nvidia technology in southern Italy. G42 will fund most of the first phase, aiming to create what they call Europe’s “largest AI computer setup.”
Italy’s Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said the project will make Italy an AI hub, likely in the Apulia region in the southeast.
G42 is partly owned by Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala fund, the UAE’s ruling family, and U.S. private equity firm Silver Lake.
