YouTube is introducing new AI-powered tools to help creators make content faster and easier. Soon, YouTubers will be able to create six-second Shorts clips and video backgrounds using just text prompts. These features are powered by Google’s Veo, an AI video generation model.
Announced at YouTube’s “Made on YouTube” event in New York, the new tools will allow creators to make short clips in 1080p resolution based on various cinematic themes. Veo will also work with the older AI tool called Dream Screen, which creates video backgrounds from text prompts.
All AI-generated content will have a watermark from Google’s SynthID technology to help viewers identify synthetic videos. These updates aim to make content creation quicker and more efficient, according to YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.
The Dream Screen backgrounds are expected to roll out later this year, while the six-second Shorts will launch in 2025. YouTube also announced more AI tools to help creators with titles, thumbnails, and video ideas.
While some creators are excited about these AI tools, others worry about the rise of AI-generated content. Concerns have been raised about spam, copyright issues, and AI copying creators’ work. YouTube is working on tools to address these issues, including a feature that can detect AI-generated singing voices and deepfakes of creators.
YouTube also introduced a new feature called “Jewels,” which lets viewers send gifts to livestreamers, similar to TikTok’s gifts. Additionally, automatic dubbing will expand to French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
