OpenAI is getting ready to launch a new AI tool called “Strawberry” this fall. Previously known as Q* and pronounced “Q Star,” this AI is designed to solve math problems even without specific training, create marketing strategies, solve tricky word puzzles, and conduct in-depth research. According to a report by The Information, Strawberry might also be integrated with the latest version of ChatGPT-4.
This news comes as OpenAI is looking to raise more funds from investors. The development of Strawberry was first reported in July by Reuters. The AI is expected to do more than just answer questions; it will be able to plan and navigate the internet on its own to carry out what OpenAI calls “deep research.”
Why is OpenAI developing Strawberry? According to the report, Strawberry aims to solve the problem of AI giving incorrect or misleading information, which happens when AI models struggle with common sense issues, like recognizing logical errors or playing simple games like tic-tac-toe.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hinted at this new project with a cryptic post on August 7, 2024, showing an image of strawberries with the caption, “I love summer in the garden.” The new AI tool will also help OpenAI develop their next large language model (LLM) called Orion.
